Ummah Two Zero is a community-based, non-profit, non-governmental organization located in Modogashe Sub-County, Garissa County. Its origins are unique, born from the understanding that good times often create weak people, weak people create bad times, bad times create strong people, and strong people create great times.
As a result of the devastating effects of the drought, we established this organization to show the locals that, collectively, they could address their challenges. “If an egg is broken by an outside force, life ends. If broken by an inside force, life begins. Great things always begin from the inside. When broken by external forces, however, life ends” Jim Kwik. This philosophy guided us in forming Ummah Two Zero.
Members contribute Ksh 20 daily, equivalent to Ksh 100 every five days, Ksh 200 every ten days, and Ksh 600 monthly. If a member wishes to pay for multiple months in advance, they multiply Ksh 600 by the number of months. For example, three months would be Ksh 1,800. This amount is the minimum, but members are welcome to contribute more. The more one rewards the greater. As the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) tod us, “Charity does not reduce wealth.“
As of this writing, Ummah Two Zero has successfully distributed food supplies to more than 114 households. Moreover, the organizing committee has visited 22 sick individuals, started 32 small businesses, and made two hospital visits. In addition, the organizers also held a fundraising event to support a child diagnosed with hydrocephalus.
The committee meets three times a month—at the beginning, middle, and end of the month—and as needed. In these meetings, the team carefully assesses beneficiaries to ensure that aid reaches those in need and is not misused.
In addition to the three regular meetings, Ummah Two Zero convenes twice a month to plan visits. These visits are purposefully scheduled to help members renew their faith and strengthen their connection with the Almighty. Through these experiences, members learn to appreciate the blessings of health, wealth, and children bestowed upon them by the Creator.
One visitation day stands out in particular. It was a day filled with tears and heartache as members witnessed the suffering of those they visited. The emotional toll was so great that some members could not eat afterward. They prayed for Allah to ease the burden of those in pain and bring them comfort and solace.
These experiences remind Ummah Two Zero members of the importance of serving and caring for those in need. They vow to continue their efforts, hoping that Allah will bless their endeavors and guide them in their mission.
Our organization has a reputation for reliability. In December 2022, our first month of operation, we collected Ksh 32,600. With these funds, we provided the following items to seven households:
If you give us more, we will distribute it all. Our steering committee consists entirely of volunteers who do not require compensation. In fact, we incur additional expenses to ensure that all contributions go directly to those in need.
Ummah Two Zero prides itself on maintaining a strong reputation for trustworthiness and transparency. All our operations are conducted with the highest level of accountability.
As a non-profit organization, all our members volunteer their time and expertise without financial compensation. Our members are either employed by the government, the county government, or are self-employed, respected members of society. As individuals committed to strong family values and morals, we strive to better our families and children.
Our dedication to integrity is further evidenced by the absence of any history of fund mismanagement throughout our lives. As devout Muslims, we uphold the principles of trustworthiness and honesty, which align with our organizational values.
We regularly update all financial transactions within our WhatsApp group, ensuring that all members are informed and up-to-date on our organization’s financial status. This transparency is a cornerstone of our operations.
